Recycling Information for Sands Township
We partner with the Marquette County Landfill and Great American Disposal for our recycling program. Our new transfer station is now open on M553 just south of the Sands Township Office and Park.
Recyclable Materials
Glass –
Clean and empty bottles & jars. No windows or ceramic containers. Glass must be separate from other recycling.
Paper & Cardboard –
Cardboard Boxes * Sticky Notes * Manila Envelopes * White and Colored Paper * Non-Wax Paper Cups * File Folders * Business Cards
Newspaper & Inserts * Magazines * Cardboard * Paperback & Hardcover books * Paperboard (Cereal, Shoe & Food Boxes) * Toilet Paper & Paper Towel rolls * Junk Mail * Brown Paper Bags * Receipts * Cardboard Egg Cartons * Phone Books
Metal –
Non-returnable cans (Soup Cans, Pet Food Cans, Coffee Cans, etc.)
Solid Plastics –
Condiment Bottles (Ketchup & Mustard, Sour Cream, Frosting & Butter Tubs, Salad Dressing and Syrup Bottles, etc.)
Bathroom Accessory Bottles (Shampoo, Body Wash & Hand Soap Bottles, Lotion Bottles, Plastic Cosmetics Tubes, etc.)
Cleaning Supplies (Spray Bottles, Dish & Laundry Soap Bottles, Fabric Softener Bottles, Windshield Washer Jugs, Empty Aerosol Cans, etc.)
Non-Returnable Plastic Containers (Sports Drink Bottles, Juice, Milk or Water Bottles, Baby Wipe Containers, etc.)
Reminder – plastic wrap and plastic bags are not recyclable through our program. They must be thrown away or recycled with a program that accepts them. Any soiled items cannot be recycled. Paper towel, napkins, Kleenex, and other paper products that have been used must be thrown in the trash.
Transfer Station Hours:
Wednesday 4-7 pm
Thursday 10 am – 2 pm
Saturday 10 am – 2 pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, all 12 months of the year.
PLEASE HELP KEEP RECYCLING COSTS DOWN BY BREAKING DOWN ALL CARDBOARD BOXES, FLATTENING ANY PLASTIC JUGS OR ALUMINUM CANS, AND PREPARING OTHER ITEMS TO TAKE UP AS LITTLE SPACE AS POSSIBLE.
PLEASE NO PLASTIC BAGS, HOUSEHOLD WASTE, or STYROFOAM.
